Why you shouldn't smoke

Have you ever walked past someone smoking? Did you notice anything? It probably smelled a little weird, right? Have you ever wondered why they smoke?

Well, most people smoke to "fit in" with their friends and to gain acceptance, which is not right. You shouldn't have to smoke to feel accepted. Your friends should accept your true self, otherwise, they are not real friends. When you smoke, the brain releases a hormone called dopamine which is a hormone that produces feelings of pleasure, so people would think that smoking is fun, but it's not. Now you might be thinking 'But why is smoking bad?' smoking is bad because it can cause long-term negative effects on the body, including heart disease, cancer, and diabetes. But how does it happen? Take cancer for example, smoking has chemicals which damage the DNA, and if the DNA is damaged, the cells are damaged so the dead cells clump up and cause cancer. Pretty dangerous, right?



Do you know what smoking is made of? You would probably know the answer if you were an adult, but I will say it anyway. Smoking, as the word says, is made out of smoke. That is why it smells so bad. You light the cigarette with fire and inhale the smoke. That is why it is harmful. When there is a fire, people die not because they get burned, but because they inhale the toxic smoke. So you can say that smoking is like being in a house that is on fire.


Now that we learned why smoking is bad, we are going to discuss how you can quit smoking. The best way is to see why you are smoking in the first place. It is usually because you are stressed or anxious. Try to see why you are getting stressed. If it is not stress that is the reason, then it might be because you like smoking and you think it is fun. Here is what I think you should do if that is the case. When you feel like you want to smoke, try giving yourself something else, like candy. If you keep putting candy first instead of smoking, you will eventually stop. And if it is stress, then try talking with your friends and family about it. They are the most supportive people in the world.
